General Services Fee

This fee does not apply to Concurrent Enrollment Program courses. The general fee is charged per credit each semester to all students to cover the costs associated with a broad array of student success services. Included in these services are career and academic advising, counseling, tutoring, maintaining and updating technology, and student engagement activities. The general fee supports RVCC’s academic curricula, support services for students (both in-person and virtual), and program offerings. The fee is not earmarked for a particular program or student; rather, it facilitates programs and services that enhance course offerings and academic support for all students.

Full tuition and fees are charged for auditing a class with the exception of individuals who qualify for the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver.

Out-of-County residents (not Somerset or Hunterdon) attending RVCC for a program, certificate, or classes that their home county community college does not offer may seek in-county charges.

Required Steps

• Apply to RVCC and follow the 5-step process, and register for classes
• Contact the home county community college for their chargeback process and information
• Notify the home county community college that you applied to RVCC to pursue a program, certificate or class(es)
• Provide RVCC with either:
  • The approved chargeback form, to confirm the registration to the RVCC admissions office, OR
  • Present the Certificate of Residency to the RVCC Finance Office

Somerset and Hunterdon County residents registering for a program or classes that RVCC does not offer may seek in-county charges at another community college in New Jersey that offers those programs or classes.

Chargeback is a two (2) part process with both RVCC Admissions and the County Treasurers Office. Chargeback requests must be completed each semester that a student registers for a program or class(es). Prior semesters will not be approved.
 
Part 1: Information for RVCC

• Fill out the RVCC Chargeback Request Form
• Requirements for a Program Chargeback Request:
  • Acceptance letter from the New Jersey county college that they are accepted, specifying their program of study
  • Placement test results or test waiver letter
  • Program description
  • Schedule of classes
• Requirements for Course-by-Course Chargeback request:
  • Course description (for each course)
  • Schedule of classes

Once submitted, the RVCC Chargeback Request Form will be evaluated. A decision will typically be made within 24 hours of receipt and will be sent via email.
 
Part 2: Information for Student's Home County Treasurer's Office

• The student will email the approved chargeback request form to their home county treasurer’s office to obtain the Certificate of Residency
• Once signed by the County Treasurer, the student then submit the Certificate of Residency to the community college where they will be taking classes
• The community college where they will be taking classes will adjust their Out-of-County rates to In-County rates
• The county office determines residency eligibility

Somerset and Hunterdon county residents age 65 and older may audit one qualifying academic-credit course each semester if space is available. Seniors will be charged a $50 General Services fee per credit and must pay for their own books and materials. To qualify, you must register during the five business days prior to the start of the course. No credit will be earned for taking the course.

Somerset and Hunterdon County residents who have received tuition waivers may register five business days prior to the start of the semester. Out-of-county residents must first apply to their home county college, and register one day prior to the start of the semester.

All students must complete and bring the FAFSA financial aid application and an approved Unemployment Certification Waiver at the time of registration. All fees except the Late Registration Fee apply. If you enroll earlier than this date or do not have the completed FAFSA and approved waiver with you at the time of registration, you will be charged the regular tuition rate plus fees.

Members of the New Jersey National Guard or the New Jersey National Guard Reserves taking up to 16 credits per semester are eligible to receive a tuition waiver. All fees apply.

This chart provides the ability to view totals, which include tuition and the general services fee, at varying credit hour levels for students enrolled in classes offered at RVCC as Classroom, Online, Telecourses and Hybrid courses. It does not apply to Concurrent Enrollment classes held at the student's high school, or to the RISE program.

Please note: Special fees, such as the International Student Processing Fee, the Nursing Fee, the Honors College fee, the Occupational Therapy Assistant fee, the Applied Music fee and Automotive Program fees are not included and should be added to the amount derived from the table to determine your total cost, when applicable. If you register late, you should also add the $50 late registration fee to that total.
