Service Learning Program

Driving Community Involvement and Real-World Experiences.

Community College doesn't just mean being within the community--it involves being a part of it and enriching it. We believe this altruistic aspect of the RVCC Service Learning Program provides a lifelong lesson, not just an academic necessity.

The RVCC Service Learning Program is a nationally recognized offering that enables students to use
community service as part of the classroom experience and receive academic credit for their service.

We offer some 85 different courses within the program, each providing a service-based learning
experience.

Each year, the time and talents of RVCC students equates to about $1 million of donated service
to our community partners. These partners include:

Pre-K-12 schools
Afterschool programs
Environmental centers
Nursing homes
Adult daycare centers
Courthouses
Food banks and homeless/domestic violence facilities and animal shelters
Municipalities
And so much more!

Among the activities of our Service Learning students are tutoring and mentoring young children and youth, serving meals to the homebound, providing recreational activities and companionship to the elderly and disabled, assisting with marketing and social media campaigns, event planning and management, helping with recycling and beach and river clean-up initiatives.

Benefits to the Community
